Hi, I’m Nikki, or Nyx.
My first travel memories were in 1985—riding the back of my dad’s pedal bike in scorching Bombay, India. Ever since then, I’ve been on the road. I was raised in Thailand, and later the Philippines, traveled for work and adventure through East Africa, and married in Europe, my current home base.
In my early 20’s, I worked as a radio host and music video illustrator in Manila, then moved back to Thailand where I taught English. I lived in Uganda for three years, organizing volunteer projects, human development programs, and scriptwriting/radio-hosting on KampalaFM.
In 2005, a visit to the Philippines serendipitously turned into permanent work as a Travel TV Host and writer for CCI Asia, on the Living Asia Channel (aired in North America via ABS/CBN on The Filipino Channel (TFC), plus VAsianTV, JumpTV and PinoyCentralTV). Three years later, I joined Eastgate Publishing, as Managing Editor of Philippine Airline’s award-winning Travel+Lifestyle magazine, Mabuhay.
As a mom of two (4-year-old boy and 4-month-old girl!), I love the journey of parenthood, but in-between dinner dishes, toddler naps and laundry, I continue to write and paint. My published work has appeared in Chicken Soup for The Soul, Smart Parenting, Female Network, Activated magazine, Mabuhay magazine, Lifestyle Planet, Asian Traveler, Mango Magazine, and the current Philippine Tourism website. You can read more stories here.
This personal blog is a way to continue sharing life’s gifts, in notes on cross-continent travel, mommy stuff, inspiring people and places. If you find it worth your time, thanks for stopping by!
P.S. I’m 100% Filipina 🙂
